Welcome to Montrose

The ever-changing Montrose area is one of the most popular inner-loop areas of the city. Montrose has long been considered the “bohemian” area of the city, as it transitioned from once being the high-end suburbs of the 1890s to be the area where “hippies” lived in the 1960s, to being the center of the LGBTQ+ community starting in the 1970s, to now being the “hippest” area of town. Montrose boasts a myriad of popular restaurants from hole-in-the-wall Mom & Pops to high-end haute cuisine. The area is also home to many artists, museums, and art galleries. There are also historic districts in the area, including Courtland Place – which is a privately-owned street where all but a few homes on the street are historically significant.

Montrose is also smack dab in the middle of most of the major employment centers, thus its popularity. Homes range from old duplexes and four-plex rentals, high-end apartments, apartment to condo conversions, early 1900’s arts and crafts four-square single-family homes, 1920-30’s bungalows, 1960-70’s town-homes to new construction town-homes and $1m+ new construction single-family residences from traditional to ultra-contemporary. Only a few areas of Montrose are deed-restricted, so couple that with no city zoning and pretty much anything goes! If you want to live in an area that can be somewhat walkable (yes, in Houston!), has plenty to do and places to go, does not have that “cookie cutter” feel, and is close to just about everything, then Montrose is the place for you!
